Murder Mystery 2 Filming Locations

Murder Mystery 2 (2023) was filmed primarily on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaii and in and around Paris, France, between January and April 2022. The production features a mix of exotic real-world locations and elaborate set pieces. Below is a comprehensive guide to Murder Mystery 2 filming locations, organized by region and scene.

For each site, we outline which scenes were shot there, any available filming dates, and behind-the-scenes insights from the filmmakers, as well as practical information for fans who might want to visit these locations today. (No spoilers about whodunit, but spoiler alert for general scene descriptions.)

Murder Mystery 2 Filming Locations in Hawaii

The film’s first act is set on the fictional private island of Maharajah Vikram, but these tropical scenes were primarily filmed on O‘ahu, Hawaii. Production kicked off here in late January 2022 before moving to France. Hawaii stood in for the idyllic island where the protagonists Nick and Audrey Spitz attend a lavish wedding, until murder and mayhem ensue.

Silverfox Residence (1914 Vancouver Dr, Honolulu): “New York” Mansion Scene

This stately home in Honolulu stood in for a New York mansion in the film’s opening. In the story, Audrey and Nick Spitz (Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler) are hired by a wealthy client, Mrs. Silverfox, to investigate her husband, a scene which was actually shot at 1914 Vancouver Drive, Honolulu.

Murder Mystery 2 Filming Locations | Unhappy client's house

Principal photography for the film commenced in Hawaii in January 2022, so it’s likely this early sequence was filmed around that time. Interestingly, the same house was used as Goldie Hawn’s residence in the comedy Snatched (2017). The production likely used the home’s exterior (and possibly interior rooms) as-is, with minimal set dressing to pass it off as a New York estate.

Tip

This location is a private residence in a residential neighborhood of Honolulu, not a public site. There are no tours or markers, so fans should be respectful if attempting a drive-by photo. Essentially, it’s one of those blink-and-you’ll miss-it film cameos, a bit of movie magic turning Honolulu into NYC.

Kualoa Ranch & Moli‘i Pond, O‘ahu: Island Arrival and Gazebo Pier

Much of the island’s atmosphere was captured at Kualoa Ranch, a 4,000-acre private nature reserve on O‘ahu’s windward coast. Kualoa’s dramatic scenery, including jungle valleys, mountains, and a coastal fishpond, has appeared in many films (from Jurassic Park to Lost, and, of course, 50 First Dates), and the area offers movie site tours for visitors.

Murder Mystery 2 First Meeting

In Murder Mystery 2, the establishing shots of the Maharajah’s island and the helicopter approach were filmed over Moli‘i Pond and “Secret Island” beach, which are part of Kualoa Regional Park. The aerial flyover of the lush island is enhanced with CGI; for instance, the twin mountain peaks shown are inspired by the Pitons of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean.

Murder Mystery 2 Hawaii helicopter ride

One key Hawaii set piece is the dock and Balinese-style gazebo where the couple first land by helicopter and are welcomed by their host, the Maharajah. This pier scene was filmed on the shores of Moli‘i Pond, near a local macadamia nut farm within the Kualoa Ranch property.

Tip

Actress Jennifer Aniston had filmed a scene on this same property nearly two decades earlier for Along Came Polly

The backdrop was augmented with a dramatic CGI waterfall and mountain, but the pier itself is real. While the exact pier may have been a set build, visitors to Kualoa can see Moli‘i Pond and nearby “Secret Island” beach. The very pond where the Hukilau Cafe for 50 First Dates was set.

Kualoa Ranch at Murder Mystery 2

Kualoa Ranch offers guided tours, ATV rides, and other activities that showcase the scenic areas used in the film. Keep in mind that access to specific spots (like the pond’s shoreline) might require booking a tour or private event at Kualoa.

Lanikuhonua Lagoon (Ko Olina, O‘ahu): Beach Wedding & Ransom Scene

Many beachfront scenes, including the wedding celebration and subsequent crisis, were filmed at Lanikuhonua Lagoon, part of the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute in the Ko Olina resort area of west O‘ahu. This picturesque lagoon is framed by palm trees and manicured lawns, providing a secluded, postcard-worthy beach setting.

Kualoa beach in Murder Mystery 2

In the film, it serves as the site of the Maharajah’s wedding party (with dancers, fireworks, and festivities), as well as the beachfront bar where a special ops team later attempts a ransom exchange. In reality, that seaside bar shack is a pavilion on the Lanikuhonua grounds, repurposed for the movie’s dramatic standoff.

Maharajah's wedding party

Lanikuhonua is not a public beach park but a private cultural preserve; however, it can be rented for events and sometimes holds community cultural gatherings. Casual visitors cannot freely walk into the institute’s gated area, but Ko Olina’s adjacent lagoons (like Lagoon 1 near the Disney Aulani Resort) are public and offer similar scenery.

The broader Ko Olina resort area (about 25 miles west of Honolulu) is open to the public, featuring beaches, hotels, and pathways linking a string of idyllic lagoons.

Banyan House, Honolulu: The Spitzes’ Villa Suite

Despite the “private island” setting, the luxurious guest villa where Nick and Audrey stay (notably featuring a gigantic suite with a retractable roof and even a framed piece of “unicorn” cheese in the story) was partly filmed at a real mansion on O‘ahu.

The Spitzes suite Murder Mystery 2

The Banyan House, a 14,000-square-foot oceanfront estate in the Kahala area of Honolulu, was used for exterior shots of the couple’s accommodations. This historic seven-bedroom mansion (built in 1933 and named for the enormous banyan tree on its grounds) is a familiar filming location.

It also served as the iconic Robin Masters’ estate in the Magnum P.I. TV series. In Murder Mystery 2, the property’s distinctive architecture and seaside lawn provided an authentic backdrop for scenes of the Spitzes’ lavish lodgings.

Banyan House is a private property, but it is available as a luxury vacation rental and event venue. Fans with deep pockets can actually book a stay or tour the estate by appointment (its owners rent it out for weddings, TV/film shoots, and upscale accommodations). The address is 4369 Royal Place, Honolulu, in an exclusive neighborhood just minutes from Waikiki. Even if you can’t enter the grounds, you can drive by the gated estate.

Murder Mystery 2 Filming Locations in France: Paris and Environs

After the island adventure, Murder Mystery 2 shifts action to France, primarily Paris, with a detour to a country château. The production was filmed on location at some of Paris’s most famous landmarks, as well as a few lesser-known spots.

Paris establishing shot

These sequences were shot in February–March 2022 under strict logistical planning (including overnight shoots and special permits) to capture the City of Love on screen. Director Jeremy Garelick has said he chose extravagant, world-famous locations because he wanted to give audiences a vicarious escape after years of lockdowns.

For fans, this means many of the places seen in the movie are not only real but readily visitable – often free or with a price of admission. Below, we break down the Parisian and French locations by scene:

Arc de Triomphe: Kidnapping & Ransom Exchange

When Nick and Audrey arrive in Paris, they head straight to the Arc de Triomphe, the monumental arch at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle (where 12 avenues, including the Champs-Élysées, converge). In the film, the Arc is the rendezvous point where they are instructed to deliver a $70 million ransom to the kidnappers holding their friend, Maharajah Vik (the groom from the wedding).

Arc de Triomphe: Kidnapping & Ransom Exchange

The grandeur of the setting adds to the drama, and indeed, Murder Mystery 2 was granted permission to film at this historic landmark. The Arc de Triomphe scenes were shot on location, reportedly in January 2022 during the Paris portion of the shoot.

The Arc de Triomphe is one of Paris’s top tourist attractions and is open daily. You can walk around it for free (using pedestrian underpasses to reach the center of the traffic circle), or buy a ticket to climb to the top for a panoramic view.

Tickets cost around €13 (free with certain tourism passes or for EU residents under 26)

Don’t expect to find any sign of movie mayhem now, but standing beneath the Arc, you can relive the moment the Spitzes awaited the kidnappers.

Streets of Paris & “Café Le Beau”: The Van Chase and Crash

Naturally, nothing goes smoothly at the ransom handoff. Nick and Audrey get pulled into the kidnappers’ van, triggering a high-speed chase through Paris. These chase sequences were filmed across multiple locations in the city.

The Van Chase Murder Mystery

The production staged driving shots on the Champs-Élysées and adjacent avenues like Rue de Chaillot and Avenue Marceau, with the Arc de Triomphe visible in many backgrounds.

At one point, the van careens into a tunnel (the Ave. de la Grande Armée underpass near the Arc) and later somehow emerges by the Seine near Notre-Dame Cathedral (movie magic condenses geography).

While exact streets flash by quickly, sharp-eyed viewers will spot landmarks. If you’re visiting Paris, you can actually walk the same general route – from the Arc down the Champs-Élysées toward the Seine.

Café Le Beau | Murder Mystery 2

The chase culminates in a spectacular crash into “the oldest café in Paris,” a fictional Café Le Beau. In the movie, the van plows through the café’s facade, ending the pursuit explosively. Those scenes required a controlled environment, so Café Le Beau was not a real business but a temporary set built on location in the city.

The production constructed the fake café exterior on a street corner in the Butte-aux-Cailles neighborhood of the 13th Arrondissement. Specifically, the facade was erected at the intersection of Rue Jean-Alphand and Rue des Cinq-Diamants, right outside a real restaurant called Les Cailloux.

Murder Mystery 2 Les Cailloux

In fact, earlier in the film, you can glimpse the Les Cailloux signage in the background just before the van explodes – a little Easter egg for locals. After filming, the “Café Le Beau” set was removed, and the real Italian restaurant Les Cailloux continues business as usual at that address.

You won’t find any “Café Le Beau” sign now, but you can certainly visit Les Cailloux, the authentic eatery that lent its location for the crash scene. It’s a charming trattoria at 58 Rue des Cinq-Diamants, 75013 Paris. Stop by for lunch or dinner (open most days 12:00–14:30 and 19:00–23:00) and imagine the chaos that was filmed outside.

Les Cailloux, Paris

The intersection is in a quaint neighborhood known for its street art and village-like feel, worth a stroll even beyond the movie connection. As for the chase route, fans can retrace it in part: start at the Arc de Triomphe, head down Champs-Élysées (where filming rigs captured the speeding van).

Then detour to the quiet streets of the 13th to see the café spot, which is about 4 km away, highlighting how film editing can stitch distant locations together.

Palais Garnier Opera House: Midnight Meeting with the Inspector

Nick and Audrey meeting Delacroix

Fresh off demolishing a Parisian café, the Spitzes regroup and seek help from their old ally, Inspector Laurent Delacroix (played by Dany Boon). They arrange a covert meeting at the Palais Garnier, the 19th-century opera house famous for its ornate architecture (and as the setting of The Phantom of the Opera).

In Murder Mystery 2, we see Nick and Audrey enter the Opéra Garnier at night, walking through its grand foyer and meeting Delacroix in one of the plush boxes overlooking the stage, only for chaos to follow when another assassin strikes.

Hours
Monday – Sunday   10 AM – 5 PM
Tips
The opera house is open to the public almost daily for self-guided tours (€14) or guided tours (€19), except when rehearsals or events restrict access. Visitors can marvel at the grand staircase, the marble foyers, and the auditorium (when available)

Stand in the same halls where Sandler and Aniston filmed, though hopefully with fewer bullets flying. Palais Garnier also still hosts ballet and opera performances; attending a show is another way to experience its splendor.

Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, Maincy: Countess Sekou’s Palace

Leaving the city, Nick and Audrey’s investigation brings them to a wealthy associate’s mansion – the opulent estate of Countess Sekou (Jodie Turner-Smith).

In reality, the palatial home seen in the movie is Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, a magnificent 17th-century château located about 55 km (35 miles) southeast of Paris, in the town of Maincy.

Murder Mystery 2 | Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

Vaux-le-Vicomte appears on screen as the sprawling “family château” where an important confrontation takes place (and yes, more chaos as things literally catch fire). The film shows the estate’s formal gardens and Baroque facade in several shots.

Vaux-le-Vicomte is a historic site open to the public, so fans can definitely visit and stand where the actors did.

Countess Sekou Chateau

This château has its own intriguing history: built in 1661 by Louis XIV’s finance minister Nicolas Fouquet, it was so splendid that the jealous King imprisoned Fouquet and took inspiration from Vaux to build Versailles.

Today it remains privately owned but operates as a museum. Visitors can tour the lavish interior rooms, stroll the extensive formal gardens designed by Le Nôtre, and even climb into a gilded carriage in the carriage house museum.

Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

Tickets can be purchased on-site or online (approximately €16 for adults to tour the château and gardens). You can reach Vaux-le-Vicomte by taking a train from Paris (Gare de l’Est to Verneuil-l’Étang, then a shuttle or taxi).

Tips
It’s typically open from spring through late fall (roughly March to early November) and seasonally in December for holiday events.

The estate also offers special candlelit evenings in summer and other events. Movie fans might recall that Vaux-le-Vicomte has appeared in other films (like Moonraker, The Man in the Iron Mask, etc.), making it a popular pilgrimage for cinema buffs. At Vaux, you can reenact the Spitzes’ adventure, minus the inferno!

Eiffel Tower: Climactic Showdown & Stunt

It wouldn’t be a Paris caper without the Eiffel Tower, and indeed, Murder Mystery 2 uses the iconic monument for its final act. The climax of the film unfolds on (and off) the Eiffel Tower, including scenes at the Le Jules Verne restaurant on the Tower’s second level and a vertigo-inducing confrontation at the very top.

Murder Mystery 2 | Eiffel Tower

In the story, Nick and Audrey convene with the remaining suspects at Jules Verne (the real Michelin-starred restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower) for a tense reveal, before villainous antics lead to a wild stunt sequence dangling from the Tower’s upper reaches.

Astonishingly, the production was the first ever to film a stunt sequence on the Eiffel Tower with a woman performer jumping off. Jennifer Aniston’s stunt double, Kelly Phelan, made history as the first female to bungee-swing from the Tower, earning a spot in the Guinness World Records.

Eifel Tower stunt

For movie tourists, the Eiffel Tower experience is readily available, albeit without the Hollywood drama. You can dine at the actual Le Jules Verne (located on the Tower’s second floor at about 125 meters high).

Jules Verne is a haute cuisine restaurant (dress code and reservations required, prefix lunch around €135+ and dinner tasting menu €245+, booking often months in advance).

Even if you don’t splurge on a meal, you can visit the Bar à Champagne at the top (3rd floor) of the Tower, where in the film the villains lurk with the briefcase; it’s basically a small counter selling champagne to visitors enjoying the panoramic view.

To access the top, you’ll need to purchase a summit ticket (around €28 for adults, via elevator). The Tower itself is open daily, usually 9:30 or 10:00 AM until 11:45 PM (last elevator times vary by season). Tickets can be bought online (recommended to avoid lines).

Eifel Tower Murder Mystery 2

Keep in mind the Tower is extremely popular; the crew’s luxury of empty platforms at 2 AM is not the normal experience! Still, being on the Eiffel Tower, you can imagine the adrenaline of that final scene. As you look out over Paris, recall that Audrey Spitz rappelled down these beams.

Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor: “Love Lock” Bridge Vow Renewal

After the dust settles from the Eiffel Tower escapade, the film closes with a romantic touch: Nick and Audrey, in a quiet moment, renew their marriage vows on a bridge in Paris, attaching a padlock to symbolize their unbreakable bond.

Murder Mystery 2 renewing vows at Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor, Paris

The bridge in question is the Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor, a pedestrian footbridge over the Seine connecting the Tuileries Gardens (near the Musée d’Orsay) to the Left Bank. This bridge is sometimes mistaken for the more famous Pont des Arts (historically known for “love locks”), but in recent years, the city has removed the thousands of locks from Pont des Arts due to safety concerns.

The production chose Passerelle Senghor, which still had some love locks on its railings, as the site for the heartfelt finale.

Love Locks bridge Murder Mystery 2

For travelers, Passerelle Senghor (formerly called the Solférino footbridge) is freely accessible and offers lovely views of the Seine, the Louvre, and the Orsay Museum. It’s located at Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor, 75007 Paris (nearest Métro: Assemblée Nationale or Musée d’Orsay RER).

While attaching new love locks here (or on any Paris bridge) is officially discouraged, the city’s “No Love Locks” campaign asks visitors to refrain, since at one point the weight of locks caused a Pont des Arts railing to collapse.

Passerelle Senghor

Instead, you can simply enjoy the sentiment of the scene: stand at roughly mid-span of the bridge, take in the view of Paris in both directions, and remember that the Spitzes found a moment of peace here after their adventure. It’s a great spot for photos and often less crowded than other tourist bridges.

Final Scene: Athens (Greece) Cameo

Although not a filming location per se, the movie ends with a brief scene of Nick and Audrey in a helicopter over the Acropolis of Athens. This was almost certainly achieved with visual effects and possibly a green-screen stage, rather than flying the actors in Greece.

Flying over Athens in Murder Mystery 2

It serves as a comic setup for a potential sequel rather than a substantial location. So if you’re tracing the film’s steps, you don’t need to go to Athens, but if you do, the Acropolis is obviously a must-see on its own merits!

Fans traveling to Athens can certainly visit the Acropolis and imagine a wayward helicopter above, but rest assured, no actual helicopters are allowed to buzz that close to the Parthenon in real life. It’s a reminder that sometimes even an “all-encompassing” on-location movie here and there uses a little post-production magic for that extra wow factor.
